Overview

Nico's Taco Shop, located on N Oracle Rd in Tucson, Arizona, brings a genuine slice of Mexican comfort food to the Eastside neighborhood. This unpretentious spot has built its reputation on hearty, flavorful dishes that satisfy both locals and visitors craving a satisfying meal without fuss.

The menu is a celebration of classic Mexican fare with a few standout specialties. From substantial breakfast burritos packed with meats like bacon, steak, and chorizo, to indulgent choices like the carne asada chimichanga and the famously loaded “Hairy Burrito,” Nico’s knows how to fill plates and appetites. Their newer introduction of flower tacos adds a fresh twist, lightening the lineup with a floral and unique flair.

The atmosphere here is straightforward and welcoming, perfect for anyone seeking no-nonsense, speedy service and generous portions. Diners like Triston Hooks appreciate the fast, simple service paired with consistently good flavors. Gus Hinson’s note on veggie and likely vegan options echoes the inclusive nature of the menu, catering to a broad audience without compromising on authenticity.

While true authenticity sparks some debate—Ryan Volton acknowledges that this spot is among the most authentic options found east Tucson, though it gently nods toward the evolving regional palate—Nico’s remains a reliable go-to, especially after a long day. It’s the place where one can indulge in comfort food that holds up well for second meals, as Posa52 mentions after a hike, highlighting the excellent value for its generous servings.

The vibe of Nico’s Taco Shop blends a casual, fast-paced environment with a community feel. It appeals to a diverse target audience: from early-risers craving a substantial breakfast burrito, to families looking for large portions, and budget-conscious diners hunting for satisfying Mexican staples. The combination of quality, speed, and portion size makes it a standout for those who appreciate Mexican cuisine with soul and substance, all in a no-frills setting.

Nico's taco shop is the place to go after a hike. So many calories are probably in this one plate of food, yet I will gladly eat it. Authentic? No, but if you're short on cash and want a meal to last both dinner tonight and a lunch tomorrow, this place is it. Look to pay around 15 to 20 dollars per person including drinks. The picture is the Carne asada fries with lettuce (it's an upcharge of 1 dollar but it's worth it)

Fast, simple, and great tasting Mexican food! Straightforward place with no frills and good service. Carne asada torta was great, chile relleno burrito was huge, and breakfast burritos were amazing!
